Is today the day that we end a week or start a new one? Do we plan the upcoming week or do we reflect on the past week? Today I am going to a little of both. The past week was so busy but so fun. I was able to go and meet some great people in business at a networking event on Tuesday. Seeing the pride and excitement of local business owners was so refreshing. I met a few people that I know I will be doing some reviews and checking out what they do and what they have to offer. A few of the women I met are going to be good friends. Do you ever meet someone and you are like WOW! we are going to be really good friends. I have and I did get that feeling for three of the ladies I met that day. In fact this coming up week I am meeting and reviewing her business on Tuesday and I couldn't be happier. I am going to go early just so we can talk and visit and really get to know one another.
When I first started to blog and write for the paper I knew what I wanted it to be like but I didn't think it would get the response that it has gotten. My first article was in the paper. I did my first public reviews for this blog on three businesses and I have been asked and I have asked other places if I can review for them. It is so great to see and do new things that will help others go out and try it because I reviewed it first. I know that before I was doing this I wanted to go to places a lot of the time just because word of mouth told me that it was a good place to stay a great place to eat or a good deal for a service. I like someone else to test the waters to make sure it would be something that I would like and not waste my money on. I think more and more people are doing this because our money need to go further and we want to take less of a chance to spend it.
Now the upcoming week...... Cleaning up after the Hubs & Fur babies...
Some people say that " you can’t keep your house clean" & "there just aren’t enough hours or enough hands to get everything done" Well I have tried to think that and it can go maybe a day at the longest 48 hours but really it makes my skin start to crawl and then it hits me. Those of you that know me know that I am an OCD neat freak. How I wish I could be like my friends and family and not have it bother me so much, but it does. I know everyone has their own things....
But here are my things:
1. Vacuum. I vacuum at least twice a week. If I don’t, our carpet looks yukie & I really hate it when the stairs get bad so I do them twice a week as well.
2. Kitchen counters. I cannot stand having dishes and clutter all over the kitchen counters. After crawling in bed for the night, I will get up again if I realize there’s junk on the kitchen counter that needs to be put away. This goes for dishes in the sink, too. Can’t stand to leave them there. I hate when I wake up after knowing that all are done and their are dishes from the hubs left over Kitchen mess from his breakfast. REALLY?!?
3. Bathroom counter/sink. I clean off our counter nearly every day, putting things away and straightening up. If it’s cluttered, it takes me twice as long to get ready, I wash my shower when I am in it naked with gloves and comet I bet that is healthy. I use an old tooth brush to clean the sink and baby oil to make the metal in the shower stay looking clean. It is an old house cleaners trick. Hub's has one bathroom to himself and he tries to keep it good. I try hard to cut him some slack but I know that when I say If its yellow be mellow if its brown flush her down... but really when the yellow stings your nose when you walk in it is no longer mellow!?!
I guess you can say that I don’t like clutter, dirt, messes, My Scentsy burners have to be going I have one in the family room, kitchen, livingroom, Hubs bathroom, master bedroom/bath. I also have candles on in the evening or when it is rainy and yukie outside. SO with that said my Sunday is fastly flying by so I better get off here and do some of my OCD work! :) Hope you had a great past week and wonderful weekend.

I hope you enjoy this article. It is the first that I have written in the Kingston Community News, I know some of you wont be able to get the paper so I thought I would share on here!
Michelle & I have become close friends. We have alot of the same views and share many things in common. We know what to say at the right times and be in the right places when we need to be. It was an instant click and a friendship that will be one I treasure for the rest of my life. Anyone that knows Michelle in person knows what a special person that she is. Michelle brings that specialness to her Store. I hope after reading this you are able to take the time and check her store out!

Kingston has always had such special meaning to me. Maybe it’s the fact that for 5 generations my family has been a part of this wonderful community. Hearing stories and visiting places that only the old timers know about has always made me believe that I had a secret pass at the world of Apple tree cove.
One thing I know for sure is that what makes this community so wonderful is the women who have molded it into what it is today. All the years of hard work are starting to pay off. When most all of the businesses in town are being ran, owned & operated by mostly women.
To celebrate the women both past and present, my monthly columns will highlight a women in business in our community on the north end. My daily blog will be focused on all the women in North Kitsap and the “going on’s” in and around the community!
As this hits press time a store that we have grown to love will be closed. The Mad Hatter Boutique. You see this was one of the reasons I wanted to get the Community news out there to support our businesses because if we don’t use them and support them we will all wake up one day and be back in the early years of the Kingston settlers and down town will be gone.
The first Lovely Lady I am going to highlight is Michelle Lanning the owner of Lil’ Sprouts. Michelle is a local like herself. Her roots run deep in the community. Michelle’s father Richard Belmont Jr. is from the Suquamish Indian tribe and served for many years as a Tribal Chairman. Her mother Carolyn Playter was raised in Kingston herself. Even her Grandfather Ted Playter owned and ran the scrap metal yard on Bond Road so needless to say it is in Michelle’s blood to be a business owner in Kingston.
“ Owning a green organic eco friendly toy shop is so exciting for me, and I am so excited to share it with the little town I love so much.” Michelle said.

The best part for the Kingston residents is now they don’t have to drive outside our little town to get the perfect baby shower gift, or birthday gift for that special little one. It is right in our little Kingston town.
When shopping here remember that Michelle takes the time to hand pick out toys & products that she sells in her store. With brand name toys like Spring, Maple Landmark, The little Experience, HABA, and carrying some of the hottest celebrity must have. You have to know that what you are buying is as unique as she is. Her toys are not just safe for babies but safe for the planet too! Only buying from companies that support green and fair labor practices.

Friday Vacation on a tank of gas...( Long Beach Washington, Akari Bungalows)
Friday's I will be doing reviews on places to stay, mini vacations and places to go with your spouse, children, bestfriend, or alone to enjoy some time away. I am doing this because when Hub's and I were both working outside of the house with two full time jobs. We were able to vacation and do things whenever we wanted. I love to travel & explore new things and places, this is in my blood! My mom jokes that we are gypsy's and I am sure when I research our family history this is one thing that will come to be true. Only thing that has changed is now with just Chris working full time we aren't able to do the vacations in the way that we once were able to do. I have to get creative so Friday's are going to be about vacations, time away & the way to do it on a small budget, because let's face it the most important thing to do on a vacation is to re-connect and learn to relax and enjoy your time with your loved ones....and yes sometimes that means just you, because if you don't love yourself who will? The first place I am going to write a review about is Long Beach, Washington. We stayed at Akari Bungalows. It was a few days before Valentines Day, It was stormy and the wind was blowing so hard that the rain was coming down sideways. We didn't mind the idea of being locked away in a cabin at the ocean.
When you first arrive at the bungalows, you feel a little twang of nostalgia of simpler earlier times. Akari Bungalows, were originally built in the 1930s and newly renovated, these eight cozy, stylish bungalows were re-designed to make you feel like you are staying at your families guest house instead of a strangers cabin or a regular hotel. What makes these so unique is that each are owned by different people, they put their own personal touches into their cabin, so that you will feel like you are right at home. The Inn at Discovery Bay, take care of the bungalows. Their staff is amazing, we kept having the beautiful gas fireplace go out on us, ( operator air ) and no matter when we called the manager was there within 20 minutes fixing the problem. She was so kind and even gave us her home and cell numbers just in case we needed anything or if the power went out. With staff like that treating us like family and the bungalows being so home like, it just made us feel that much better and so relaxed to have no worries.
It made it so much better to know that my "fur babies"were able to come with me on our vacation! This place was perfect to have your dogs come with you. Running on the beach playing catch with their chuck it's and play in the waves, even though we had a ton of rain we made it just as fun! walking the board walk from one side of Long Beach to the other, they just loved to prance in the fresh air. So if you have dogs feel free to bring them because they are "fur baby friendly!"
To top it off you are right in the heart of the tranquil coastal town of Long Beach. The cabin's are Located on the main beach approach, right under the Long Beach Arch, nestled close to the ocean and a block from town, Kitty corner from the Ice cream shop! Each of the Akari Bungalows have gas fireplaces, plush king or queen beds, while some have jetted tubs and either full kitchens or kitchenettes. Every amenity allows you to fully enjoy the long lazy days one hopes for on a beach vacation.
We stayed in number eight! We walked in and looked around and feel in love. There was a full jetted tub for two, a gas fireplace, full kitchen so Hub's could make me food! A shower and cute little bathroom, a DVD, and flat screen TV, Radio, and a note book that people had written about their own thought on the Bungalow, most people wrote about needing a chair, but to me it was perfect to just lay in bed. We slept on a King size bed and when we got back from our trip we got our own Kingsize bed.
While we were there we went up to Ocean park being able to go to Jack's and Sweet Williams On Bay, are my two favorite places to stop into and enjoy. We enjoyed the Long beach down town, eating at Ancor's Grill & lounge for dinner, and Lauire's for breakfast, and enjoying all the wonderful shops. If you are going to go enjoy this wonderful town make sure you check out The Long beach vistor's page
I was sad when the two nights were over I could have stayed and read books, watched movies, and enjoyed their free wifi! It would have been wonderful to be able to look at the ocean for another week. I am hoping to be invited back and to review the property at The Inn at discovery coast.

Thankful Thursday's!
I am going to start doing a blog about what I am thankful for every Thursday! I realize that there is always something negative that one can say but not always easy to do with saying something positive, There is so much that we hear everyday of something wrong or something upsetting, but I want to do one post a week that can focus on everything good in my life. There is so much good in my life I feel like being sharing a piece of my sunshine each week...
Tonight I went downtown Poulsbo to get out there and meet some new friends and saw some of my closest friends tonight. I have to say I am so thankful for all the wonderful things that Kingstongirl has been bringing me. It just makes me smile. Then to top things off paying this forward with the Celebration Cake bags, ( we got 20 ) I can't wait to get my goal for all of them.
Most importantly I am so thankful for my Mom. She is my mom but so much more then that. With our her in my life my heart would be empty. I don't take the time to say it all the time but my Mom is so wonderful, my best friend, rock. My Mom showed up and stayed to the last minute of the Girls night out. Kept me company and is always so supportive. I know that not every family has the bond that my family and I have and that makes me sad because everyone should be as loved by their parents as I am and love their parents as much as I do.
I am blessed to have the friends that I have.

Review of Dirty Hairy's! ( Tessa saved the day! )
Before the haircut!
Last week I was asked to go check out Dirty Hairy’s salon down town Poulsbo on Jensen Way.
When I walked into the salon I felt like I was walking into a hip Steal Magnolias Salon.. That this is a place that I could not just get my hair done but really feel like I was sitting at a friends house where I was waited on and treated like company. Just the undivided attention they showed me made me feel like I was a guest in their home, I guess in a way I was a guest in their home.

I was happy to be playing on my laptop writing for the blog, using the free wifi that they offer to anyone that goes there. Tessa told me they got wifi so people could still do work while they were there on a lunch break not missing a beat while they waited for their color to be done or wait their turn to have their hair done. It just makes sense in a busy way of life these girls catered to us.
Tessa has been living in the area for about two years. “I have been a stylist for 20 years and a salon owner for 13 years. When I moved here my goal was to open a salon within one year. Big goal... “ Moving here from Spokane she left everything and everyone she knew and headed to Poulsbo to start her new life. While waiting to find the perfect place Tessa rented a chair at a local salon until she was able to build a name and client list for herself. “Eight months later, that is just what I did.” In the mean time she met and became friends with Stylist Kimbery Ulbright & soon they started looking for the perfect place to run their own salon becoming co-owners & partners of Dirty Hairy’s salon & together they opened in July 2009. Then the third lady of the Salon Alison Hanford called and asked if there was a chair for rent and the rest is history! Alison is a perfect fit to the trio! They are a great team.

Tessa enjoy’s making her own rules. “I have always been more of a leader than a follower when it comes to most things. It seems to have worked so far.” On the down-side, for owning her own business she feels that there is a lot of responsibility to keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone is happy.

When asked if there was anything she would like to change in Poulsbo she said “I would get rid of the one hour parking signs so people can enjoy more time roaming around”
Tessa is a true believer that more people should help support the local small businesses, so someday all of the windows will be lit up rather than empty! In the future The Salon hope there will be a Dirty Hairy's magnet on all of the refrigerators in kitsap county within the next five years! As a salon owner Tessa has learned how to see people as individuals, and then to take that and use it as a tool to give each person a pleasurable experience. When she chose to open the salon in Poulsbo It was because she enjoyed the view of the bay and the historical downtown "feel". Tessa always believe’s your business will grow if you work where you play. “I love it here! The people in this community are very original. We fit in here. Dirty Hairy's is one of a kind!”
When I left the Salon after my hair getting done I realized that I was hooked and more then likely would never go anywhere else. I have told everyone and anyone that would listen that this is the best kept secret in town & in selfish way hoped it would stay that way so I wouldn’t have to wait a month to get a hair cut! I figure I better book early because these three girls, Tessa, Kim & Alison, are going to be booked months in advance before long. I truly felt that this was so relaxed. That the ladies at the Salon were my friends now and really easy going and so fun to work with. In this economy their prices are so reasonable. I think that people are important to them and that our town is important to them. They add that spark this little town needs. I am so lucky to have been able to come and check them out! I can’t wait to go back!!!
