My history of Poulsbo.....

This week I am going to Highlight Poulsbo. I am going to hit on some of the great things to do and highlight things in and around Poulsbo. My Dad's Mother's family moved from Terry Montana to Poulsbo on March 20th, 1942. Being that my great grandma was norwegian and my great grandpa was German, they wouldn't let them live in the city limits, so they were able to buy land on Lincoln Road. Where they raised their family of seven children & now over a hundred of us get together at family picnics and Christmas times. The new Poulsbo is full of wonderful events. people, and festivals. businesses that help the town thrive. This week I will work on the beginning to the present day of Poulsbo. We are looking for giveaways from Poulsbo area businesses and hope that we will get alot more followers. So not only am I Kingstongirl, but I am Poulsbogirl!

I am going to be part of a blog hop party! Come join me.

I want awards and sponsors so if you would love to do either of those let me know. :)

I came across a blog called 5 Minutes For Mom, which is based on the premise that every mom can take five minutes for themselves to relax, read relevant content, and connect with other moms out there in the blogging world. They’re hosting the Ultimate Blog Party, which started yesterday.... and goes all week long there are chances to win prizes, Even better then that we get to know other blogs and bloggers. Why am I doing this you might ask? I am doing this so that I can get more followers so I can find more blogs to follow & get comments and grow my giveaways and all the wonderful things that come in the blog world. If you want to join in the fun click on the link on the side bar! :)

For those of you that are stopping by for the first time as a part of UBP10, my name is Stacey. I’m almost 33 , I don't have any children of my own, hoping to one day adopt a baby girl from China. I am an auntie to many! I have two fur babies Sophie and Howie ( they are two shitzu puppies) I have the most amazing husband Chris and we live in a small town nestled next to Kingston. I’ve blogged for almost three years on a private blog for my friends & families – all the details friends and family loved to read about. I became a fan for Kingston Community news on facebook, suggesting that they had to write about women in Business when my mom encouraged me to start writing for them and put on their page that I needed to write for them, I wrote my first article ( due out next month at press time) and I finally decided to take the plunge. I initially started this blog with the idea of writing for women and businesses in Kitsap county. Trying to get the news of the going on's and whats happening in the local communities, Highlighting people and places. I hope everyone enjoys this blog. I am going to work hard on it, but I also write about things I love to do, my experiences, and whatever else is important to me at the moment.

In the spirit of the Blog Party, April is the start of the Season of busy times. Chris is already working so much his job has really picked up & every weekend has something going on. This month their are 4 big birthday parties and a few weddings and showers. WOW! This year is going fast and with everything its going to be a fun Spring and Summer.

TGIF

Well it's Friday the end of yet another work week. Into a wonderful weekend. This morning I woke up to sunshine.
Then it snowed, rained, then the sunshine come back out. Chris did a lot of yard work today. I love it so much when it
is this time of year. It hit me like a board to the face today, that it is APRIL. This year is going by so fast. It feels like just
a week ago we were celebrating the holidays.

So what are you doing for the weekend? There is so many wonderful things going on the weekend in our little town.
Tomorrow is Kites over Kingston. Even if you don't have a kite it will be so beautiful to see all the colors in the sky.
While you are in down town Kingston stop on by lil' Sprouts toy shop. They are having a sidewalk sale and you never
can start Christmas shopping to early. :)

The General Store in Port Gamble will be having a Grand opening for the new owners! Go check it out, music, food, and a lot more.

Poulsbo & Bainbridge will be starting their farmers market. ( This really makes me excited to go to all of them from now till October..... My favorite hands down on the Kitsap side has to be the Port Townsend market.

I will post lots of pictures of this weekend on the blog. Try to enjoy the Washington sunshine. Also please leave comments & follow me on here. When I reach 200 followers I am going to have a big giveaway.

Enjoy the sunshine & try something new.

Memorial Service for Kingston local's wife John F. Longmate.

Our family had a loss this past week. This blog post is personal and how I am feeling, how I feel about my Aunt Ruth. Ruth faced her illness with grace. An inspiration to all that knew her. I had the honor of being one of many nieces to Ruth. Even though I was one of many, she always made me feel like I was the only one.

When most adults would tire of me during one of our many family gatherings she would take the time to listen to my crazy stories of my imaginary friends, she would sit there hanging on every word. Always being so patient with me. Telling the other adults that it is a childrens world all for a few minutes and then we would be all grown & she was right.

Aunt Ruth was always the first person I would look forward to seeing the most at Uncle Bills and Aunt Evelyns Christmas party at their Bellevue home. Seeing the Yellow Station wagon made me always feel like the festivities had finally begun.

I think of all that Jam she spent hours making, and I think of how tired she must have felt, not feeling well as an adult I now understand just how hard that must have been for her and her polio. I will never be able to drive down Chico and to the Silverdale water front and not think of her.

Over the years I brought many friends and extended family with me to the BBQ’s the first Saturday of August for as long as I can remember. Aunt Ruth is the one the threw out the welcome mat to all of them, never being mad that one more person was here and one more mouth to feed. I truly think that is why I love to entertain.

I will miss her warm smile, loving words, and her compassionate presence. The Longmate family had the great honor of being loved by Ruth Antoinette Longmate and we are a better family for that. We will miss you but we know you will always be a part of us.

Ruth Antoinette Longmate, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2010, at the age of 83. Ruth was born July 8, 1926 in Olympia, Washington to William Bell White Howe and Caroline Ruth Howe. She moved to Silverdale at the age of nine where she has lived for all but a few years of her life. Her early years were full of athletic activity, including water skiing, tennis, ice skating and snow skiing. She was a 1944 graduate of Silverdale High School (now Central Kitsap) and worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard before attending Whitman College and the University of Washington where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. It was in an advanced statistics class at the UW that Ruth met her future husband, John Frederick Longmate, of Kingston, WA. John and Ruth were married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bremerton on November 24, 1950.

Ruth contracted polio in August 1955, leaving her partially paralyzed. She was so ingenious in finding ways to conquer her disabilities that she was nominated as March of Dimes Mother of the Year; a 1959 Seattle Post-Intelligencer article described her as “a woman who had the courage to fight back to a normal life—without heroics.” Despite her limited mobility, she assumed an active role in her children’s lives as a Cub Scout den mother and leader with the Camp Fire girls. She enjoyed Bridge Club and never tired of gathering pirate treasures which would be buried for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to “discover” on the beach. When one met Ruth her disabilities quickly fell into the shadow of the bright light of her charming smile and welcoming hospitality. Ruth’s and John’s house was the center for multigenerational Easter, Christmas, and Independence Day family gatherings for more than fifty years along with high school reunions and PSNS summer picnics. Ruth was famous with all the neighborhood children for her welcoming home, plenteous activities and unending supply of homemade root beer.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jack Howe, and sisters Lue Seil and Ellen Craswell. Ruth is survived by her husband John of Bremerton, sister Rose Quimby of Sammamish, and brothers Bill Howe (Darlene) of University Place and Rick Howe (Lee) of Panama City, Florida. She is additionally survived by her children Jack Longmate (Beatriz) of Poulsbo, Jim Longmate of Bremerton, Janet Hutchison (Coe) of Bothell, Steve Longmate (Helen) of Poulsbo, Carol Smiley (Chuck) of Bremerton and twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 700 Callahan Dr., Bremerton, WA at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Kitsap County, March of Dimes, Polio Outreach of Washington or Central Kitsap Food Bank.

Tempt my tummy tuesdays.

Well we are going to start doing Tuesday blogs about Tempt my tummy tuesdays!

Blessed with Grace

I always have these ingredients on hand, so gave it a try, just changed it to my usual 6 eggs, instead of in a large casserole for a crowd. When I first got married to Chris, I could cook but didn't do it very often. Then I wanted to impress my in laws. So I figured if my "sister" Amy could do it I would give it a try. She told me that if I could make scrambled eggs I could do this!
& it turned out so well, that this became one of my favorites.

The nice thing about this frittata is it is baked in the oven instead of on the stove top, so makes it nice and easy to make ahead for guests.

It was excellent and is now my favorite frittata in the rotation!

Artichoke & Feta Frittata:

6 eggs
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can artichoke hearts in water, drained and sliced in half
handful of sundried or semi-dried tomatoes, chopped
handful of fresh parsley, chopped
6 oz. container of feta cheese (I used the herb feta from Trader Joe's)
salt & pepper

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.

Pour into a 9" greased pie plate or quiche dish and bake for approximately 30 minutes in a 350F oven until set.

Let cool 15 minutes before serving.

Enjoy it! Leave me a message if you cook it or plan to cook it!
