Tempt my Tummy.

Campfire Hobo Stew

This is an easy, economical and healthy recipe. We usually set up the ingredients buffet style and then form an assembly line.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
  • ground beef or stew meat cut into small pieces
  • vegetables of your choosing - corn, green beans, carrots, onions, bell peppers
  • garlic
  • butter
  • salt and pepper, to taste
Preparation:
Tear off a piece of aluminum foil large enough to fold into a pocket to put your ingredients into.

Spray the foil with cooking spray. Add meat first, then vegetables. Top with seasonings and then butter. Close foil on all sides, leaving some room for steam to build. Be sure to mark your packet so it doesn't get mixed up with anyone else's.

Put packet into the coals. Cooking time depends on how hot your fire is. I recommend checking in about 10 minutes.

Chicken Dinner in a bag

You can add any vegetables that your family likes. We've used fresh green beans and mushrooms with great results, but broccoli didn't go over as well.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
  • chicken breasts, boneless, skinless
  • red potatoes
  • corn on the cob
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • large size Reynolds Hot Bags
Preparation:
Dice onion and cut potatoes into bite size pieces. Shuck corn and cut into halves, if desired. Put everything into the Reynolds Hot Bag and fold the opened end twice to seal. Put it on top of the grill or on the tri-pod grill surface about five inches above the fire. Turn the bag carefully after about 15 minutes and cook another 15 minutes on the second side. Open the bag carefully so the steam doesn't burn you! Enjoy your meal and the easy clean up!Servings: 5 - 6

Egg's in an orange

With this simple recipe, you have your serving of eggs and fruit. It gives an orange taste to the egg.
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 12 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 orange
Preparation:
Cut an orange in half. Eat the inside of the orange with a spoon, leaving the peal in two half pieces (bowls). Break an egg in one half of the peal and place other half over top. Cover with aluminum foil and leave it in the fire for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Something happened to me this morning.........................

So, today
I decided to freshen up the patio
I hosed off both of our porch in the front
the patio in the back
While I was unrolling the hose
I smelled it....
Pacific Northwest summer...

I smiled and all the memories
of school being out came flooding back
I enjoyed the smell and feel of summer again this morning
and cant wait to everyday from here on out
Well maybe not everyday but more often then not.
I am a true Washington girl when I put a tank top on at 65 degrees!
 Our pride and Joy.
The first time we have done a garden.
& I feel so proud
of what we have made grow.
My flowers make me so happy!
I just love this time a year!
I haven't been this in love with our home.....
except for our house in South Kingston.
I am full of joy.
  I love warm summer mornings...

Meet Me Monday...

1. What do you think makes a good friend, or friendship?

My very best friends are the ones that I can completely be myself with. That I don't care about what I look like, smell like, act like in front of! ( yes this means farting, and not wearing a bra)

What I love most about my close friendships, is the fact that I can walk right in their house go to the fridge and grab something and go lay around their house.  There are no silly games that are played...we may go for weeks (months?) without seeing each other or talking, but when we do get together, it's like we just picked up where we left off! I have ten close girlfriends and I am so blessed to have them. I love them each differently, I need each of them in my life to feel complete.
I love easy friendships, Cause that is what they should be.  No Drama no stress.........

2. What is the last thing you bought & later regretted?
My Land Rover, I bought it because it was a shiny new toy that I thought I needed. With the Gas and repairs I should have gotten a Honda..... we would have had it much better....but I do look really good in my green goddess! :) Yes that is what I call her and my nephew Jonas Calls it Uncle "Hub's" Jeep truck

3. Have you ever had a prank played on you?

Never! How boring is that!!!!

4. What is your favorite theme park?

Well...the sentimental me wants to choose The Magic Kingdom. But I am the always in love with Anything Disney!!

SO I guess that it is for sure Disney World.... I love the Rock'in Roller Coaster and I love love love the Tower of Terror. :) Ahhhh now I want to go back...

5. Have you ever seen someone else give birth?

Nope. Never. I would love to one day watch as my babies birth mother gives birth to my child.
I have however seen a dog give birth and I puked everywhere! :( yukie!

A marriage is wonderful no matter the ups & downs.

In many ways, "Hub's" and I are very much alike. We love being homebody's, planning our future and playing in our gardens, delicious food, lazy Sundays, our dog's, living in suburbia, and traveling. We’re OCD neat freaks, simpletons, and nerds to our core.

But there are many ways in which we are different, especially in regards to how we communicate and deal with arguments.

He’s patient and kind and caring and collected and reserved. I’m loud and vocal and sarcastic and passionate and succumb to verbal diarrhea.

Yet we balance each other out.

We have an incredibly blessed, strong, and happy marriage. "Hub's" is my best friend, Wii competitor, movie buddy, nightly dinner date, Fur baby parent partner, and biggest fan.

But like any couple, our marriage is not without faults, disagreements, and hiccups. Not every day is Lovey Dovey, and chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles. We argue.  About the little things. About the important things. About the mundane things. About the stupid things. Things like taking out the trash and organizing the garage and spending money on things the other doesn't think is important,  where or what to eat for dinner and what movie we should watch after dinner.

There are times when I’m snippy and on edge. There are times when "Hub's" is exhausted and wants to be left alone.  But at the end of the day, we’re in this crazy thing called marriage together. We know that we will not ever give up, we will stay strong and stay married because there is never a fight worth our marriage. We know we will grow old with one each other. This is truly life's greatest gift.

Then there are times when I don’t fight fair this is not an everyday or every disagreement occurrence, but it DOES happen on occasion. It can be over something as inconsequential as where we should go on our next vacation or something bigger like having children, finances, moving out of state.

I name call or make below-the-belt character attacks (i.e. “You’re acting like an idiot!”). I use global statements such as “always” or “never” (i.e. “You never listen to me!”). I go off topic to a long list of prior examples of the current issue. I tend to act like a four-year-old child by either shutting down, giving the silent treatment, or slamming our bedroom door, with a loud name calling and "OK "insert name here".

I hate it, especially because "Hub's" is an incredibly fair fighter. He doesn’t raise his voice or name call or use past actions against me. He looks at each situation independently and as unbiased as possible. He is always loving in our exchanges. I am constantly humbled by him.

Me? Fighting fair is something I have to actively work to avoid every day.  And one day I am determined to overcome it completely. For me. For "Hub's". And for our marriage.

One thing that we have always done is to say to one another that we love eachother every night before bed with a hug and a kiss and we always say we love eachother before we leave one another. It is a great thing to be married to your best friend. He asked me a few weeks ago to re-new our vows next year. We had thought at first to do it in Las Vegas where we did it before and we decided to do it right here and share our joy and love with our friends and family here next spring.

I love "Hub's" with all my heart and love that my spirit holds. I am amazed that I get to spend my day even with life and loves ups and downs and know I am with my soul mate, my best friend. Marriage is about trust, & love, bending, give and take.

Tempt my Tummy Tuesday.

The next 10 weeks I am going to do Camping recipes. So today I am doing.................

                                                              Campfire Veggies

  • 4 medium unpeeled potatoes, sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 (10 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt to taste (optional)
  • 5 tablespoons butter, divided
  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat.
  2. Prepare two foil packets by layering together 4 squares of heavy duty aluminum foil for each packet. If using regular duty foil, use twice the number of layers. Spray the top sheet with nonstick cooking spray. In a bowl or resealable bag, toss together the potato slices, onion, and frozen vegetables; season to taste with salt, pepper, and garlic salt if using.
  3. Evenly divide the potatoes between the two foil packets, and top with the divided butter. Fold each packet, starting length wise, rolling edges together, repeat for each end, making sure to seal edges tightly.
  4. Cook the foil packets over the preheated grill until the potatoes are tender, approximately 15 minutes per side.
  5. Easy recipe for your campfire, BBQ Grill, or oven
